I wrote this poem in 1983 at age 16, for a rather special and misunderstood person. He was very intelligent and warm-hearted, but also terribly introverted. I believe he felt lonely. Compare this poem to An Invitation (1985).

Oh!

You do not fool me

For even a minute –

I can see it clearly

In your eyes

In each sad, experienced line

Of your countenance

That though you and I

Are years apart in age

We are bonded

By one common friend –

Loneliness.

They say

You do not talk

But with me

Your heart pours out

Torrents of words

Thoughts

Visions

You so desperately wished to forget –

But cannot.

Oh!

I know it well –

Your mind

Is still aglow

With old dreams

Promises

Life left barren.

Well, look into my mind –

You can live once more

In your dreams

Through mine.

I have been promised Life –

I can yet save your soul

For I take comfort

In comforting you.

You are a friend

I am not an illusion

I am not one of those dreams

That left your eyes bewildered

When you woke up.

I am the window

Through which sunshine

Can enter

The dark room of your Life –

If only you will hold

My outstretched hand of friendship

And lift the curtains

Of your mind.

Few could escape

The brilliance of my soul

When I willed it.

But sooth, I am compassionate.

I am the promise of Mankind

That you sadly cast aside

Years ago –

I have come back

Not to trouble your soul

But to save it

Before all is over.

Et meget meget fantastisk digt, kære Vanita, en dyb, dyb “drømme/livs/drømmelivsvævning”! ❤️❤️ Peer

Thanks so much, Peer and I am really glad you liked the poem! It’s true that it has a dream-like quality.
