I wrote this poem in 1985, 17 years old. This was a very spiritual phase in my life; I was inspired by the Christian and Hindu faiths on death and resurrection. Compare this poem to The Saviour (1983), offering redemption.

Will you flee with me

Into tomorrow?

Will you relinquish

Your painful Truth?

Then follow me!

Bleed with me –

You shall be blessed

Eternal Life.

Be not afraid!

It is but the body

That flows as ashes

In the sacred River of Tears –

The soul is ever living.

Come!

Melt your suffering

Into my unalloyed grief –

Shed your careful disguise

And penetrate into the Truth

Of this relentless Drama.

Come, Rest awaits us!

Vanita Shukla Hork, 1985

So deep, so observant. How old were you when you’d written this, I wonder?

Thanks so much, Jill! The poem is dated 1985, so I would have been 17 years old.

Thank you, John! This was a particularly spiritual phase in my life, and I was inspired by both the Christian and Hindu approaches to death and resurrection.
