I wrote this poem in 1985, 17 years old. Just like Grace, also from 1985, it expresses gratitude for a true friend. One inevitably loses loved ones and friends in life. It is a blessing to find true companionship and understanding.
I thank Thee, God
For a friend so true
At last
After so long a time –
She has come back
In different body
Yet I know
The spirit is the same.
I can feel it in my soul –
The voice is changed
But the words remain eternal.
I thank Thee, Lord
For the silent understanding
Of another.
I thank Thee
For a second chance
To fill that dark and empty corner
Of my heart
That has been lonely
For quite a while.
I thank Thee
For this emotion
That makes me want to smile.
