I wrote this poem in 1985, 17 years old. The beloved is divinely cold, almost like a statue. Compare the despair in this poem to the pain of unrequited love in Disappointment (1987) and to the disillusionment of Death of a Girl (1984).

Youthful God

Anointed with the tears

Of a youthful heart –

Learn to love

Love fully –

Be impassioned

Not cruel.

Can you give your love

To me

Or must you be divinely

Cold?

Can you remain divine

Or will you crumble

To dust

With false hopes

And foolish dreams?

Are you more

Than a mere man –

Or are you simply

Another God?

Vanita Shukla Hork, 1985

The theme of many of your poems is youthful love and in deep detail. I find it astonishing that a 17 year old obviously in love can be so emotionally involved. Great words as always Vanita and the meaning well conveyed.
