The Four Seasons is the very first poem I wrote, in 1981 at age 13. It is divided into 4 parts, this is the first part called Autumn. The poem is very simple and innocent, even as I was at the time. Read also the other parts of the poem – Winter, Spring and Summer.

Autumn

As I sit by my window

All I can see is the sky

And the lovely fall.

Orange, red, yellow and golden –

The leaves falling

So slowly, so gracefully

As a ballerina with silver wings.

Someday

We too shall fall down

Ever so slowly, ever so gracefully –

Like the leaves falling

Outside my window.

Then I move away, shaken

From my little world of thoughts

Into the stark reality

That surrounds me.

Vanita Shukla Hork, 1981

A beautiful portrayal of innocent awakening to impermanence.
