My mother, the late poet and artist Kusum Shukla, passed away exactly one year ago on 20 January 2025. Please join me in commemorating her memory. Read also Peace (2025), written while she was ill and dedicated to her memory. Rest in peace, Mummy. Gone but not forgotten.

Such a sad day today.

It started well enough

And then I remembered –

Those who are gone

Those who have passed on

Whose voice I shall never hear again –

You.

Memories crash through

The numbness of my heart

And I am painfully aware –

Of the silence

The emptiness –

That you are gone.

It was a sad day today.

It was a sad day today. Looking at the bright sunshine, one wished Kusum had been with us to share the warmth,

Then I remembered what someone had once said about loved ones who have transitioned.

Those whom we love live on in our hearts forever.
