My father, Ramesh Chandra Shukla, believed in my poems and wanted to publish them decades ago, when I was a young girl. Children, Children! was one of his favourite poems. He passed away on 05 September 2004. I dedicate this poem, written in his memory, to him on his 20th death anniversary.

It was on this day

You lost hope

And yet, in that painful moment

You sought peace.

The peace which eluded you

I hope you found it –

I really hope

You finally found it.

They say

People do not truly die

If they are not forgotten –

You are not forgotten.

In silent memories

The happy and the sad

In silent thoughts –

You are not forgotten.

I wish you peace

I truly wish you peace

And freedom to fly

Free.

Finally free.

Forever free.
