Many of my poems have an undertone of spirituality. I wrote I Flee, I Fly in 1986, 18 years old. It explores the complex nature of spiritual pain – the pain of the soul. Compare this poem to Ascension, written in 2023, almost 40 years later.

I fly, I flee

On wings of fire

Burning, burning

My way through Life –

I leave behind

My past

My loves, my passions –

I fear I will lose

My fire forever –

Then how shall I burn

And wrap myself

In golden glow?

How shall I seduce

Without my halo

What beauty

Shall I claim?

When men like you

Shall douse my flames

How shall I scorch your souls?

How shall I dance

The Seductress’ Dance

If no burning coals

Greet my feet?

How shall I damn you

I, the Damned –

If the heat of my body

Fails me?

I flee, I fly

I, Goddess of Pain

I prepare to die

But not in vain –

As I leap into my glowing pyre

I give rebirth to my dying fire.
