I wrote Denial in 1984, 16 years old. The poem is about denial of oneself and betrayal of another. But the Faithless One will return in the end, one cannot deny a passionate love. Compare this poem to To The Philandering Lover, also from 1984, with its similar theme.

Leaving again?

Eternal Wanderer.

What have you felt?

Beloved Philanderer.

Breaking the bonds

Of a passionate love

Your striding, manly steps

Echo my womanly fears.

But you have felt my charms –

They shall haunt you

Through the years.

Can you deny me

What I am –

Can you refuse yourself?

No –

You will be back again

Oh, Faithless One

You will return.

Beautiful. You were so wise (and observant) at such a young age. You’re definitely an old soul.
