I wrote Contemplation in 1984, 16 years old. Many of my poems have a spiritual element. Here the soul is seeking enlightenment, truth and ultimately, peace. Compare this poem to She Awaits the Sunrise (1985), with its similar theme.
I have not seen
The sun rise for so long –
To end the dark night
Of my contemplation.
There are no stars
No light –
And I am a fumbling wanderer
Groping for Truth.
The shadows of lies
Envelop my mind
I feel denied –
The lie is to my soul
My sensibility.
I do not know
Where this road began
I cannot see its end.
The dark night
Of self-realisation
Began aeons ago
When the soul was born.
I traversed the dusty
Roads of life
And arrived at a fitting conclusion –
The spirit of Man
Was raped ages ago
And existence is now confusion.
