I wrote Bhakti in 1985, 17 years old. Bhakti is devotion to God, and the willingness of the devotee to surrender to the Divine One, the way Meera Bai did to Lord Krishna. Compare this poem to the desperate soul search evidenced in Contemplation (1984) and She Awaits the Sunrise (1985).
O Lord!
How can I leave You now?
Can a blind man
Who has been blessed with vision
Content himself with darkness again?
Can the lame
Who has learnt to walk
Return to his crutches?
O Lord!
Though they try
To turn my face away
I shall stay by my Faith!
O Lord!
They have no ears
No ears yet
To hear the Good News –
The Divine Voice!
Oh, call me, Lord!
I am ready to follow –
Help me in my Work
Help me perform my Duty
Keep me on the path of Action
Save me from the dissolution
Of Inaction!
Lord, show me the way –
Having given the eyes to see
Make Thy will my own.
I am ready, O Lord!

a strong and spiritual poem!
Thank you, Birte! This was indeed a very spiritual time in my life, I was reading the Bhagavad Gita and was also inspired by Mirabai, the 16th century Hindu mystic poet and devotee of Krishna.
Beautiful!
Thank you so much, Pernilla!
Like a Psalm
Only
Narrower.
I like it
Thank
You
So much,
John!
